Patient Related Volunteering
Home Support
Involves assisting patients and their families in their own homes by listening, befriending and providing general support. Tasks may include transport, shopping, sitting with a patient to relieve the caregiver, preparing meals as necessary. No nursing care or housework is undertaken. The volunteer is expected to attend a monthly volunteer support group meetings. On-going practical training in patient handling skills will be given. A mileage allowance can be claimed if necessary.
Transport
Volunteersprovide transport for patients to and from Auckland and North ShoreHospitals for treatment and consultation. They may also providetransport for the above programmes. A mileage allowance can be claimed.
Biographers
Biographers visit patients and record the ‘highlights’ of their life. These are then typed up and presented to the family as a record for current and future generations.
Aromatherapists
Trained massage therapists provide gentle and soothing massages for patients.This service is purely for comfort and is not a medical treatment. The service may at times be available to family members also.
